Mondrian South Beach, Miami – Hotel Review

View from the room, Mondrian South Beach

As part of the great deal I got using Avios (here’s how we got our cheap flights), we were due to fly back to the UK from Miami in the United States. I really wanted to watch the Miami Dolphins play so we decided to stay in Miami the night before our flight.

Booking a Miami Hotel on South Beach

I’ll be honest, I didn’t know much about Miami. I didn’t know where the best place to stay was but you it has to be South Beach right? I did some quick research on Booking.com* (* Note if you book using this link you will both get £15 credit off your next booking. I will also get a £15 credit) and found a few nice hotels but I couldn’t really decide. I’d received a few tips from a friend who recommended having drinks at the Mondrian South Beach hotel. The Mondrian looked amazing! I decided that we’d be staying here, if the cost was reasonable anyway.

Top tip: Book direct with Mondrian South Beach

So I did a bit of research and found a great deal on their website – $178 for the hotel (not including taxes at $61, that’s where they get you!). This included a $50 food and beverage voucher, two free drinks (from a select menu only) and free parking worth $42. We got 5% cashback through Mondrian too. The amount of money we were ‘forced’ to pay in New York for one night made this look cheap! This deal was even better than the offering on Booking.com*, so if you’re looking to book then book direct. The staircase within the hotel was inspired by Sleeping Beauty’s castle so I sold the Disney aspect to my girlfriend. It worked. Eventually.

The Mondrian South Beach Hotel

Mondrian South Beach is perfectly located on the west side of South Beach, great for a short visit. It’s a quick ride, both into the city and to the beach on the east side of South Beach. The room we went for was the Bay View Studio which was ideal for a couple. The room was very spacious with a small dining table, a cooker, a fridge and a sofa plus the usual staples you’d find in a hotel room. There was a rather strange picture of a girl’s face on the wall but I guess that’s just boutique hotels these days!

As the name of the room suggests, we also had a view of the Bay right across to the Miami skyline. The outside pool and bar area was just below us too. The hotel brings a lot of day guests in to enjoy the outside pool area with drinks and their happy hours. It’s pretty awesome! The pool is surrounded by loungers and comfy beds which gives it a nice chilled, laidback vibe. The outside area was relatively quiet when we were there but we were told that it’s usually much busier. It’s very much a beach club kind of place.

Food and Drink

If you’re looking for a big meal at a restaurant then you won’t find one at the Mondrian. They have a decent selection of items on their 24 hour room service menu and they also have a laidback eating area at their Café. The food that we had was very nice and a tad on the expensive side but to be expected for the surroundings. The bill you get for the food comes with an 18% tip already included so one to remember. The poolside bar isn’t the only bar at the hotel, they’ve got a nice small bar within the hotel too. There’s only room for about five people actually at the bar but they have a table just behind there too. Like the food, any bills you get will have an 18% tip already included in the cost.

Would I stay here again? Yes

I’d definitely stay at the Mondrian South Beach again if I was visiting Miami. The décor of the hotel and the size of the room made this a great place to stay the night.

Stayed in October 2017.

Your room looks really big so I the cost seems reasonable, not to mention all those “free” vouchers. Nice find.

Miami is a place that conjures up images of gorgeous beaches and turquoise waters. Not been there but hope to. The Mondrian looks like a nice place to stay and explore the beaches of Miami. I like the fact that it is strategically located and the city as well as the beaches can be easily accessed.

The gloomy sky is an interesting departure from the usual photos of Miami being bright and sunny. Such an interesting perspective. We have always wanted to visit Miami since there are many beautiful dive sites nearby.

        Hi David,

Yup! We are avid followers of a YouTube channel called Jonathan Bird’s Blue World. Many of his team’s dives are in Florida and the Caribbean. 🙂

Thanks so much for that. Some of his videos are absolutely fantastic! I’m not sure I could get that close to sharks though!

Mondrian south beach looks like a very good place to stay. It’s always the same everywhere in the US with taxes and tips! The view of the Miami skyline is amazing!

Exactly, I should’ve learned after last year. Dubai is the same with taxes and fees added on

Short and crisp review. Well done. I like the fact that this is close to both – city and the beach. The rooms looks quite comfortable and that view is quite a nice one for a morning cup of coffee or maybe a glass of wine at night 😀

The room was great even with a creepy face on the wall. Great view with a drink in hand though!
